Urgent Press Release; regarding Sudan’s Sunday January 30, 2022 processions
Sudan Human Rights Network (SHRN) has received credible information that Sudanese coup d’état authorities intend to use lethal force against the demonstrations planned to take place in Khartoum, the Sudanese capital, on Sunday 30th January 2022 in rejection to the military coup d’état of October 25,2021. The authorities in Khartoum plan to close the center of Khartoum and all the streets leading to the Presidential Palace including the Nile Street thus preventing the demonstrations from reaching the Presidential Palace.
SHRN reiterates the rights to peaceful protests and that the people should be free to voice their opinion without fear of violence, reprisal and intimidation.
SHRN urge the free world, Human Rights defenders to call on the Government of Sudan to respect the people’s right to freedom of peaceful demonstrations and expression as guaranteed in the international treaties ratified by the Sudan Government and to refrain from using excessive and lethal force to disperse peaceful protests.
SHRN call on the world to closely monitor the human rights situation in Sudan as the military government is killing the youth of the country in cold blood. Measures to hold accountable those responsible to the killing and for carrying the most heinous violations against defenseless protesters should be adopted.
