A Letter to Civil Society, Human Rights Organizations, and the People of Sudan
Sudan is enduring one of the darkest chapters in its history. The ongoing war is tearing apart our nation, dismantling the social fabric that binds us together, and perpetuating blatant human rights violations committed by the warring parties. This conflict is not just about political power; it is a direct assault on our humanity, dignity, and shared future.
Sudan Human Rights Network (SHRN) calls upon human rights organizations, both local and international, and Sudanese civil society groups to unite and apply maximum pressure on all warring parties to immediately cease hostilities. The egregious human rights violations, including attacks on civilians, displacement, targeted killings, and the destruction of critical infrastructure, must not go unchallenged. Silence is complicity; Sudan’s people deserve peace and justice.
SHRN reminds the Sudanese people that this war is not their war—it is a conflict imposed upon them by forces seeking to divide and weaken their society to make it easy to control. We call on you to resist and reject this war through all peaceful means available. Your unity and resilience remain your most potent weapons against those who seek to dismantle your shared identity and values. Stand firm for peace, coexistence, and the future of your children.
SHRN appeals to all Sudanese to resist the spread of hate speech, which has become a dangerous tool used by certain factions to fuel this conflict. Hate speech sows division in the community, incites violence, and erodes the mutual respect that has historically defined our diverse communities. Reject messages of hatred and division and amplify voices of peace, reconciliation, and unity. Sudan belongs to all its people, regardless of ethnicity, religion, or political affiliation. The survival of the Sudanese nation depends on our collective commitment to peace and the values of humanity.
SHRN calls for immediate action, accountability, and a collective effort to save Sudan from further destruction. Let us not allow this war to define our future. Instead, let it be a moment where we unite to reclaim the country from the grip of violence and hatred. Together, we can rebuild Sudan.
