Taj Alsir Jaffar Taj Alsir has been arrested by elements of the Sudanese National Intelligence and Security Services (NISS). Mr. Taj Alsir was a member of the Information Committee for the Khartoum University students sit in.  It is believed that his arrest was related to his recent student activities in the Khartoum University students sit ins . Security elements in an  NISS vehicle intercepted a public transport mini bus he was boarding from Khartoum North to Khartoum and took him to an undisclosed location. His family was not  notified of the arrest nor was he afforded access to a lawyer. Upon persistent demands from his family, NISS admitted on January 15, 2012 that Mr. Taj Alsir was in their custody. He was allowed a short visit by his family in Kober Prison. Mr. Taj Alsir is on a hunger strike since February 11,2012 in protest against his detention without charges.

Sudanese Human Rights Network (SHRN) is deeply concerned about the health status of Mr.Taj Alsir Jaffar Taj Alsir and the circumstances of his arrest, and hold the Sudanese National Intelligence and Security Services (NISS) responsible for his health and personal safety.

SHRN calls for the immediate release of Mr. Taj Alsir Jaffar since no valid legal charges have been made.

Recommended Action:

Please send faxes either in Arabic, English or in your own language.

–    Expressing concern at the arrest and continuing of detention of Mr. Taj Alsir Jaffar.

–    Urging the Sudanese authorities to immediately and unconditionally release Mr.Taj Alsir Jaffar.

–    Requesting assurances that he is being humanly treated, that he has immediate and regular access to his family, lawyers, and any necessary medical attention.
