Sudan Human Rights Network (SHRN) is deeply concerned by ongoing arbitrary detention by Sudanese authorities of peaceful civil society members and activists;
- Farouk Abu-Eisa, 81 year-old, the chairperson of the opposition National Consensus Forces, was arrested on Saturday, December 6, 2014 from his house in Khartoum by the Sudan National Intelligence and Security Services (NISS) upon his return to Khartoum from Addis Ababa where he signed “Sudan Call” an agreement aimed at uniting Sudan opposition groups
- Amin Mekki Medani, 76 year-old, a renowned human rights activist, former President of the Sudan Human Rights Monitor (SHRM), was arrested on Saturday, December 6, 2014 from his house in Khartoum by security forces upon his return to Khartoum from Addis Ababa where he signed “Sudan Call” an agreement aimed at uniting Sudan opposition groups
- Farah Ibrahim Mohamed Al-Agar, president, As’Salam organization
- Mohamed Eldude, vice president, president, As’Salam organization
- Adam Dawood Elhassan, Baath party member, was arrested on Friday, November 28, 2014 by security forces from Shujairat market in Omdurman city as he was distributing his party’s political bulletin.
- Abdallah Ekheishen, Baath party member, was arrested on Friday, November 28, 2014 by security forces from Shujairat market in Omdurman city as he was distributing his party’s political bulletin.
- Al-Haj Gadem Azraq, a lawyer, member of Nub Mountains lawyers association, and president of a civil society Karco association, was arrested on Monday, June 23, 2014 by security forces upon his return from Omdurman court to his office in Khartoum
On Monday, December 22, 2014, Mr. Abu Eisa was transferred from NISS detention center to Kobar main prison. Mr. Abu Eisa who is in his early eighties suffers from several illnesses including diabetic, heart condition and cyanosis. He needs permanent medical attention which denied by the authorities.
SHRN learned from close relatives that Mr. Abu Eisa was rushed to the hospital as he suffered from cardiac arrhythmia. Also, as a result of the poor condition of his detention, lack of adequate medical treatment Mr. Abu Eisa health continue to deteriorate, his lack of appropriate diet resulted in loss of appetite. Mr. Abu Eisa was later moved back to Kobar prison despite his medical condition.
Dr. Medani, who is 76 years of age, suffers from high blood pressure and diabetes for which he has prescribed medication. According to the information received, the NISS refused to allow him to take his medications with him when he was arrested
SHRN is deeply concerned about the ongoing arbitrary detention of Mr. Farouk Abu Eisa, Dr. Amin Mekki Medani, Dr. Farah Ibrahim Mohamed Al-Agar, Eng. Mohamed Eldude, Dr. Adam Dawood Elhassan, Mr. Abdallah Ekheishen, Mr. Al-Haj Gadem Azraq, and other opposition leaders and human rights activists in Sudan.
SHRN urges Khartoum government to immediately release all detainees, as no legal charges are made. Those who detain them must guarantee the health and physical integrity of all detainees.

Please send faxes either in Arabic, English, or in your own language and
- Expressing concern at the arrest and continuing of detention of prisoners of conscious
- Urging the Sudanese authorities to immediately and unconditionally release prisoners of conscious
- Requesting assurances that prisoners of conscious are being humanly treated, that they have immediate and regular access to their families, lawyers, and any necessary medical attention.
