Sudan Human Rights Network (SHRN) strongly condemns the horrifying video circulated in the media on February 16, 2024, depicting the killing and display of severed heads by individuals in Sudanese army uniforms. This egregious act violates human rights and ethical norms, contradicting the Geneva Convention’s principles on the respectful treatment of deceased bodies in armed conflict.
The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) deems such actions as war crimes. SHRN urges the Sudanese Army to denounce and thoroughly investigate this heinous act. SHRN calls on all human rights organizations and the international community to condemn the barbaric act, monitor the investigation closely, and ensure accountability for the perpetrators.
Additionally, SHRN appeals for international pressure on conflicting parties to respect and protect detainees from torture and death. The organization remains committed to upholding human rights standards and promoting justice.
