Humanitarian Situation October 3, 2023 – PDF

Sudan Human Rights Network (SHRN) condemns the human rights violations committed by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in Tuti Island, Khartoum.

This constitutes a blatant violation of international humanitarian law and the Geneva Convention. These forces have imposed a siege on the island and set up a security checkpoint on the bridge connecting the island to the rest of the capital, preventing the island’s residents from leaving without written permission.

Tuti Island is suffering from a severe shortage of food, water, and electricity due to the siege. Communication services have been cut off, healthcare has been disrupted as the health center ceased operation, and a lack of medication has led to the tragic deaths of three individuals on Tuesday, October 3, 2023, according to human rights sources. Furthermore, the mutual shelling between the army and the Rapid Support Forces has resulted in casualties and injuries among citizens of the Island.

SHRN calls for immediate intervention from the international community and human rights organizations to save the residents of Tuti Island, and that humanitarian aid be provided

SHRN demands that RSF lift the siege immediately, and those responsible for these violations be held accountable to prevent their recurrence.
