Sudan Human Rights Network (SHRN) is deeply concerned by the arrest of Professor Mohammed Zainal Abidin Osman on Tuesday, February 21, 2012 by Sudan National Intelligence and Security Services (NISS). Professor Mohammed Zain had written an article published in “At’tayiar” newspaper commenting and criticizing the manner the President Omar al-Bashir is dealing with the issues of corruption in a televised interview that was conducted with the latter on Friday, February 3, 2012. It is believed that the motivation behind the blocking of “At’tayiar” newspaper yesterday by Sudan National Intelligence and Security Services (NISS) was because of the article of Professor Mohammed Zain in which he publicly criticized President Omar al-Bashir.
Sudan Human Rights Network (SHRN) condemns the clear targeting of Professor Mohammed Zainal Abidin Osman, and calls upon the government authorities of Sudan to the immediate release of Professor Mohammed Zain and ensuring his personal safety and refrain from prosecuting or oppressing those who have different political opinion, try to silence their voices hrough intimidation, or close media platforms where they express their independent opinions.
